A 42-year-old man has been killed after his car collided with a bridge in county Kilkenny.

The collision happened on the N9 at Knockwilliam, Ballyhale, County Kilkenny, last night at around 9.15pm.

The man was the only occupant of the car which collided with a bridge.

He was pronounced dead at scene and removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, where a full post mortem will take place tomorrow, Monday 25th November 2013.

The vehicle was travelling on the N9 from Ballyhale in the direction of Mullinavat, County Kilkenny.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
