A man, named locally as James Irwin, has been killed in an accident on a Dungannon farm.

The incident happened on the Rhone Road in the Co Tyrone town on Sunday.

He was aged in his 30s.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating.

Sinn Fein MLA Linda Dillon has expressed condolences to the man's family.

She said: "This death on a farm in the Dungannon area will have shocked the local area and the wider farming community.

"Any death on a farm is one too many.

"I send my sympathies to the family and friends of this man at this difficult time."

A Health and Safety Executive spokeswoman added: "HSENI is investigating a fatal incident on a farm in the Dungannon area. Our thoughts are with the man's family at this most difficult time.”

Tom Elliott, Ulster Unionist MP for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, said: "Whilst the full details are not yet known, I understand that the young man was in his thirties and was planning to get married sometime in the near future.

"This tragedy illustrates that the agricultural industry carries a more significant risk than any other industry and behind these statistics is a story of a grieving family, a community in shock and the need to make farms safer places to work and live in.

"I extend my sympathies to the grieving family at this dreadfully sad time."
