Man in his fifties killed after car strikes tree

A man in his fifties has been killed following a road collision in Cork this morning.

The man, aged in his late fifties, was fatally injured when the vehicle he was driving struck a tree at approximately 10am.

The incident occurred on the N72, Mallow-Killarney Road at Dromagh, County Cork.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is to take place tomorrow.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
