Man hospitalised after 'explosion' in Waterford

Damage caused to three properties as a result of suspected explosion

A MAN was injured in a suspected explosion at a house in Waterford city.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident at an address in the Ballytruckle area of the city at around 8.45pm on Sunday night.

The man was rushed to University Hospital Waterford with non-life threatening injuries.

Gas Networks Ireland were also dispatched to the scene and remain on site.

Investigations are continuing and the cause of the explosion is not yet known at this stage.

It is understood that structural damage was caused to the house as a result of the incident and properties on either side were also damaged.

A spokesman for Gas Networks Ireland said:

"Gas Networks Ireland personnel remain on site, supporting emergency services at the site of an incident at Ballytruckle Road, Waterford City.

"The cause of the incident remains unknown and an investigation is currently ongoing by An Garda Síochána and relevant authorities."
