Man held on car-jacking charge

A 32-YEAR-OLD man was yesterday charged with hijacking a car with a boy inside.

Noel Price (32), of Kileely Road, Kileely, Limerick, was brought to Limerick District Court yesterday after he was charged with committing the crime on the Old Cratloe Road, Limerick on Thursday.

Judge Tom O'Donnell heard evidence of arrest, charge and caution from Gda Neil O'Gorman of Mayorstone garda station. The court heard the defendant made no reply when charged yesterday.

Wearing a grey hooded top and sporting a heavily bruised and cut black eye, Mr Price attempted to hide his face from cameramen and photographers as he entered and left the court building at lunch-time.

He did not speak during the brief hearing.

Defence solicitor Sarah Ryan said she had no question in relation to the charge and said she would not be making a bail application yesterday, but indicated she would be doing so at a later date.

Ms Ryan asked that her client be remanded in custody until next Wednesday.

Judge O'Donnell noted that the case was a matter that would require directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The judge also said the State was to be notified in advance if there was to be a bail application made on behalf of the defendant and adjourned the case until January 26.
