Man fights for life after city stabbing
A MAN in his 30s is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital today after being stabbed a number of times in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened on Main Street, Clongriffin, north Dublin, at 12.10am.
Gardai said the local man was discovered injured on a footpath at the scene by a member of the public.
Officers are trying to establish where the man was stabbed.
The bloody scene remained sealed off this afternoon as a technical examination took place. “A detailed investigation is now taking place – a motive for this attack has yet to be established. Gardai are appealing for information about this attack,” a spokesman said.
Recent research at St James's Hospital has found that while the total number of assault cases treated at their emergency department had dropped (from 2,667 to 2,246) in the last six years, the number of knife-related assaults had remained unchanged (357 in 2005 and 362 in 2010).
