Man falsely imprisoned in car boot while home raided

A man was falsely imprisoned in the boot of a car, assaulted and tied with cable ties, while five men in balaclavas raided his home, Gardai have revealed.

Police are looking for information on the incident, which took place on December 11 in Duncarbery, Tullaghan, Co. Leitrim.

At approximately 11:30pm that night, four to five men, whose faces were disguised by balaclavas forced their way into the man's home and bound his arms and legs with cable ties, before forcing him into the boot of a waiting car.

Gardai believe the car was a Mercedes, described as being relatively new.

He suffered minor injuries after the incident and a number of electrical items were stolen from the home as well as his Audi A4, which was later recovered.

Witnesses have reported seeing a dark Jeep with closed-in trailer, near the scene on the night in question.

Gardai are now investigating since the report was made and are appealing to the public for information. Both a  Senior Investigating Officer and an Incident Room Coordinator have been appointed to the case.

They are also working closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
