Man dies while climbing Carrauntoohil

A man has died while climbing Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry.

It is understood the man suffered a serious fall while climbing Ireland's highest mountain at around midday.

He was aged in his mid-50s.

"A man was fatally injured after suffering a fall while climbing Carrauntoohil," a garda spokeswoman confirmed.

Members of Kerry Mountain Rescue Team responded and the Coast Guard helicopter based at Shannon also attended the scene.

His body will be taken to University Hospital Kerry where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
