Man dies in house fire just days before Christmas after blaze breaks out in cottage
A man died following a fire at a house in Dublin on Friday night.
The fire broke out in a cottage in the North Strand area of the city shortly before 9pm.
An elderly man was taken from the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead later.
A number of fire engine crews from Dublin Fire Brigade battled the blaze at the house on Hiberian Avenue.
Gardai sealed off the property last night. A forensic investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fatal blaze.
The victim was aged more than 60 years of age, said a fire brigade spokesman.
