A man has died following a fire in the south side of the city.

The incident occurred at a property on Lissadell Drive, Drimnagh tonight.

Emergency services and Gardai arrived at the scene and quickly began working on the man.

Gardai confirmed that he was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he later died.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.

A man who arrived at the scene told the Herald: “There were fire engines and gardai everywhere.

“I saw a man lying on the ground outside the house and there were paramedics working on him.

“He was taken away to hospital in an ambulance,” the man said.

Another man, who arrived at the scene added: “There were two fire engines and four garda cars and one motorcycle garda at the scene."

Neighbours described the victim (67) as a “nice man who kept himself to himself”.

It’s understood the man lived alone.

One woman said:  “I had just got home from work and all hell broke loose”.

The house remains sealed off by Gardai.
