A FARMER who was killed when his tractor overturned had only hours earlier taken part in a tractor charity run to raise funds for a hospital.

Stanley Moore (59) was fatally injured when his tractor left the road and overturned as he was travelling home from the charity event in Co Cavan.

The accident occurred on the Cootehill to Mountain Lodge Road shortly after 8pm on Sunday. Mr Moore, a single man, of Ashfield, Mountain Lodge, was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mr Moore, who is survived by a brother and six sisters, had taken part in a charity tractor run near his home in aid of Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin.

"He was a quiet gentleman," his brother Kenneth Moore told the Irish Independent.

A neighbour said it was the fourth year of the charity event and Mr Moore had been on it every year since it started.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to contact Bailieboro garda station on 042-9694570, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
