A man in his 70s has died after a small fishing vessel capsized off the Wexford coast last night.

The alarm was raised just before 11.30pm, when the vessel failed to return to shore.

However a short time later a small passenger ferry came across then people in the water off the Saltee Islands.

All of those in the water were wearing life jackets.

The scene was attended by the Fethard-on-Sea and Kilmore Quay life boats and coast guard units out of Kilmore Quay and Dunmore East.

One man was brought by helicopter to University Hospital in Waterford, where he later died.

The other nine were treated at Wexford General Hospital for shock and hypothermia.
