A MIDDLE-aged man found lying dead in a pool of blood in his home had suffered severe head injuries in a brutal assault.
Gardai are understood to be following a definite line of inquiry in their investigation into the killing of Don Geasley (42) in Macroom on Thursday.
However, they have not yet upgraded his death to murder.
Mr Geasley was discovered dead in his rented home at Masseytown in Macroom, Co Cork, at 10am that morning.
Gardai are trying to trace seven people believed to have been with Mr Geasley at a house party on Wednesday evening.
A post mortem was completed at Cork University Hospital yesterday by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.
Mr Geasley had been living in the Macroom and Rylane areas over recent years but had spent some time previously in the UK.
A 30-year old man was arrested late on Thursday evening in the town amid suspicions of attempting to obstruct the garda probe.
The man was released without charge last night. A file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
