A man has died after a violent row at a house in Co Kildare.
The victim, named locally as Noel Winterlich (36), is believed to have been attacked and killed while socialising in the house in Willowbrook Park, Celbridge, at around 8.50pm yesterday.
A man was later arrested at the house and is being questioned about the alleged attack.
Mr Winterlich is said to have been at the house for a number of hours before he was killed.
Gardai said they were called to the incident at the house at 8.50pm following the discovery of a man in his 30s with head injuries by paramedics attending the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead shortly before 10.30pm and his body remained at the scene pending an initial examination by a pathologist.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and detained at Leixlip Garda Station under Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act.
He is in his 20s and from the Celbridge area.
The scene was preserved pending the arrival of the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis and the Garda Technical Bureau.
It remained sealed off this morning and neighbours said they had not seen or heard anything suspicious yesterday evening.
“The first I knew about it was when I saw an ambulance pulling up, and then the gardai arrived later. We didn’t know what was going on,” one nearby resident told the Herald.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Willowbrook Park area of Celbridge to contact them at Leixlip Garda Station on 01 666 7800.
