Man arrested over suspicious Wexford Christmas Eve death

Well-known locally, he was described as a man in his mid-sixties who lived alone, and single.

A man taken from the house where the body was found in Courtown has been arrested.

Gardai visited a house in  Ballinatray Lower, Courtown Harbour where they found the dead man around midnight last night.

A second male in his 40’s was taken from the scene by ambulance and brought to Wexford General Hospital where he was released this morning and arrested by Gardai.

He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Enniscorthy Garda Station.

The decreased man is said to be in his 40s and is the father of three children.  

One local resident described him as been a very quiet and well-known man in the area. 

"He was a man who kept very much to himself but having lived locally all his life he would have been known to everyone.

"This is a terrible tragedy at any given time but at Christmas time it’s more devastating for the families.

The body of the dead man was removed from the scene to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The scene is currently preserved and a post mortem on the deceased male is scheduled to take place at Waterford Regional Hospital tomorrow morning.

The State Pathologist Office was also notified of the death.
