Detectives have arrested a man in relation to the suspected theft of €12,000 in cash and other property from a city centre garda station.

Officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) arrested the individual following a lengthy probe.

The man, aged in his 40s, was detained in Dublin city centre on Sunday afternoon and is being questioned at Crumlin garda station.

The suspect was arrested in relation to the theft of the significant cash and property from Kevin street garda station.

A garda spokesman confirmed that the male was detained under Section 4 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

The €12,000 in cash and property was taken over a period of time, and came to light following an internal audit within the garda station in April.
