A man in his 50s has been arrested in the investigation into the murder of Seamus Doherty in Donegal in 2012.

Gardaí at Milford arrested the 52 year old last night in Raphoe, Co Donegal.

He was expected to appear before Buncrana District Court this morning.

Mr Doherty (67) was found dead in his home in Churchill, Co Donegal on June 17 2012 at 1.50am.

The father-of-four was found in the bathroom of the small cottage in the townland of Drumacanoo, six miles from Letterkenny.

A number of people were at the house when gardai and ambulance crews responded to an emergency call.

Following a post-mortem examination carried out by the State Pathologist Prof.Marie Cassidy on the June 19 it was established that he had been strangled.

An incident room was set up at Letterkenny Garda Station and Gardai began a murder investigation.
