Passengers were left in shock after a man pulled out what appeared to be a gun on a Dart in Dublin this afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3pm when the man reportedly pointed the imitation firearm at another passenger.

The man, aged in his forties, was arrested by gardaí who were waiting for him at Tara Street train station.

He is currently in Pearse Street Garda Station and is being detained under Section 30.

"Customers alerted us to the situation at Connolly Station, but the train had left and was on its way to Tara Street," Irish Rail spokesperson Barry Kenny told

"We alerted staff and gardaí through our central control system."

Mr Kenny said it was a "swift response" from the gardaí, who arrived within minutes to Tara Station.

"We're grateful to our customers, staff and the gardaí for their response today," he added.
