Gardai have arrested a man and recovered a firearm following a firearms incident in Dublin city centre last night.

At approximately 10.30pm last night a lone male was observed discharging a firearm in the direction of a house on Beaver Street, Dublin 1.

There were two people present in the house at the time and there were no injuries, a garda spokesman said.

The man then left the scene on a bicycle. A patrolling garda unit observed the suspect on a bicycle on Sean McDermot Street a short time later and with the assistance of a second garda unit the 28 year old was arrested.

He was brought to Store Street Garda Station where he is presently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

In a follow up search a firearm was recovered near where the arrest was made.

The scene at Beaver Street is currently preserved for a technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to this firearms incident to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 6668000, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
