Man arrested after attempted knife robbery of post office

Gardai have arrested a 40-year-old man after an attempted robbery of the Post Office on Collins Avenue in Dublin this afternoon.

At 3.30pm this afternoon a man entered the Post Office on Collins Avenue and demanded cash.
He was armed with a knife.

He ran off empty handed in the direction of the Swords Road.  A garda unit responding to the call arrested the male a short distance away on Swords Road and recovered a knife.

There was no one injured in the incident.

The man  is currently detained at Coolock Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
