Man and woman die in overnight traffic accidents

Gardai are investigating an accident in Co Laois in which a male pedestrain was killed. The car involved did not stop.

The incident occurred on the Tullamore road, close to the village of Killeigh, around 3am.

It is believed that the man, who is a father of two, was walking to his home in nearby Clonaslee when he was struck by a car. He was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore but later died from his injuries.

Gardai have appealed to a Tullamore taxi driver who may have left the man in the area shortly before the incident to contact them.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 40s was killed in a single vehicle accident outside Kells, Co Meath.

The woman was the only person in the car when it crashed at Ballinagun, Upper Kells, shortly after midnight.
