Man and pedestrian killed in separate accidents on roads
A MAN in his 20s died after his van collided with a tractor yesterday afternoon.
The accident happened at around 3.15pm on the Rathvilly to Carlow road near Tullow, Co Carlow.
A 4x4 that was driving behind the van was also involved in the collision.
The driver of the van was rushed to Naas General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A male passenger in the van, the driver of the tractor, and the driver of the 4x4 were all taken to hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.
The road was closed for an examination by garda forensic investigators.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses of the collision to contact Tullow garda station on 059 9181160, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
Meanwhile, an elderly woman has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross a busy junction.
Peggy Goulding (78) died at Naas General Hospital on Wednesday, two days after she was hit by a car while out walking.
The woman was struck by the car when trying to cross the Fairgreen/Loch Bui Junction in Naas, Co Kildare, at around 7am on Monday.
Ms Goulding's cousin Pat Goulding said the junction was a "real danger" and called on Kildare County Council to urgently address the issue of safety at the junction.
Gardai renewed their appeal for anyone who was in the area or anyone who has information to contact them at Naas garda station on 045 884300.
