A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after his hand was cut off by a meat blade.
The 32-year-old was conscious after the horrific accident at a shop in Longford town about 6pm. It is understood he was using a blade for cutting meat when it sliced his hand off at the wrist.
The local man was treated at the scene by medical personnel before being taken by ambulance to an AW-139 Air Corps helicopter and flown to St James's Hospital.
His injury has been described as not life threatening. The severed hand was recovered. Surgeons will now decide if it can be reattached.
