Man (80) dies and another seriously injured in road traffic accident

A MAN has been killed and another seriously injured in a car accident yesterday evening.

The incident occurred on Co Kilkenny on the Kilkenny-Ballyragget road at around 4.30pm.

The 80-year-old died after the car he was driving collied with another. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car, a 59-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Waterford University Hospital.

He was described as being in a stable condition.

The road was briefly closed to facilitate a forensic investigation, but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 7775000, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
