Man (70) dies as he is swept away by flood waters

A 70-year-old man has died after he was swept away by flood waters.

The man was driving at Corraghdown near Glaslough, Monaghan this morning when he entered the flood waters.

It is understood that when he was making an attempt to escape his car, he was swept away by the raging flood waters.

His body was recovered close to the car shortly before 11.30am, a garda spokesperson said.

Gardai had been searching for the man since he was reported missing this morning.

The man was from Co. Tyrone.
