Man (68) killed in collision

Gardaí in Monaghan are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Aghalisk, Co Monaghan.

The collision beween two cars occurred at around 6.30pm on the Monaghan to Clones Road (N54) around two miles outside Monaghan town.

The 68-year-old male driver of one car was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene, his body has been removed to the Morgue in Monaghan.

The female driver (58) of the second car received minor injuries and has been taken to Cavan General Hospital.There were no passengers in either cars.

The road is closed to facilitate a Forensic collision examination   and local traffic diversions are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until at least tomorrow afternoon.
