A 58-year-old man has been hospitalised following a serious assault outside a Dublin maternity hospital.

The man was found by emergency service personnel on the ground on Cork Street, outside the Coombe.

He was taken to St James’s Hospital where he was said to be in a stable condition.

A Dublin Fire Brigade crew discovered the man and St James’s was put on standby, indicating it was a serious incident.

A Garda spokesman said officers are investigating an assault that took place last night.

“It happened some time between 10.30pm and 11pm. He was found by Dublin Fire Brigade and taken to St James’s,” he added.
