Man (40s) arrested after pensioner (68) killed in hit and run

Gardai have arrested a man in his 40s in relation to a fatal car collision in Co Tipperary on Sunday.

Michael Stapleton (68) from Glengoole, Thurles, Co Tipperary was killed in the collision.

It is understood the retired man was killed just ten to 20 meters from his own home around 10.20pm last night.

Today, gardai arrested a man in relation to the incident and he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Thurles Garda Station.

The scene of the collision has been reopened to traffic.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
