A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a hijacking and an attack on a house in Northern Ireland in the early hours of Monday morning.

The man was arrested in the Larne area on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to danger life, hijacking and aggravated vehicle taking.

On Monday morning shots were fired at a house in the Brustin Brae area while a woman and three young children were inside.

Police said a Volkswagon Bora was hijacked in the Craigy Hill area of the town by two masked men armed with shotguns.

It was then driven to a property in the Brustin Brae Road area where it was set alight outside a garage.
