Man (29) arrested in connection with fatal hit and run

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run incident.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning in Swords, Co Dublin.

The victim was a man aged in his late forties - he was struck by a vehicle on North Street at around 3.10am this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Connolly Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.

This evening investigating officers arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He is currently being detained at Swords Garda Station.

Meanwhile, a man in his thirties and a woman in her forties were killed when the car which in they were travelling in left the road and struck a ditch just after midnight last night.

The incident occurred at Ballinahina, Whites Cross, Cork at approximately 12.30am.

The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their bodies have since been removed to Cork University Hospital where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
