Gardai are appealing for anyone who witnessed a pedestrian being struck by a van in Longford to come forward.

A man (20s) was hit by a silver Ford Transit van on the main street in Edgeworthstown at around 2.30am on September 10.

The driver failed to remain at the scene and the pedestrian is now fighting for his life in Beaumont Hospital.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar before being transferred to Beaumont.

Gardai investigating the crash have set up an Incident Room at Granard Garda Station and are trying to trace the movements of the silver Ford Transit Van - before and after the crash.

Anyone who was in the Edgeworthstown area between 2am and 3am, or anyone with any information about the incident, is asked to contact Granard Garda Station on (043) 6687660.
