Man, 20, stabbed to death in open air row

A young man was stabbed to death after a row broke out among youths on a green, detectives said today.

The 20-year-old victim was among a group socialising at a common area at St Cronan's Avenue in Swords, north Co Dublin, last night.

Investigators believe an argument erupted and one man pulled a knife on another shortly after 9pm.

The young man who was stabbed was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 11pm.

Detectives have interviewed some people in the area and are appealing for others who were among the group to come forward.

The scene was sealed off for a technical examination by Garda forensic experts.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on the dead man later today.

A man in his early twenties was arrested in connection with the stabbing this morning.

He is being held at Swords garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
