A MOTHER has left a heart breaking goodbye on Facebook to her little girl who died after falling from the top bunk at the weekend in her father’s house in Co Westmeath.

Abbie Cummins (2) received fatal injuries in the fall on Saturday morning, and died a short while later at Mullingar General Hospital.

The little girl who lived in Dublin with her mother, was staying with her dad Kenneth Fitzpatrick and his partner in Kinnegad in Co Westmeath, when she suffered the fatal fall in the house on the Tir Croghan estate in the early hours of Saturday.

Her mum Amy Cummins paid an emotional tribute to her little girl on a Facebook page yesterday, on what would have been Abbie’s third birthday. “Mammy will see you later. Nana and aunties looking after you till I can come up. You’ll be like a Princess in the clothes mammy got you.”

A coroner in the UK recently warned against the use of bunk beds for young children after hearing how a four-year-old boy died after rolling off the top bunk in his sleep. The coroner said at the inquest: “If there is a wider message to be passed out, it would be to check that bunk beds are constructed properly.”

Abbie will be laid to rest later today.
