Major mob suspects face court over €1.5m drugs bust

TWO major organised crime suspects are due in court today after a massive €1.5m seizure of heroin and cannabis.

The two men, from Coolock and Finglas, are suspected members of a top gangland mob involved in drug trafficking and other serious crime.

They were detained along with a 26-year-old woman following an intelligence-led garda operation.

The operation is part of an overall crackdown on Dublin's crime gangs, ordered by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

Gardai moved in on the gang on Monday night and seized eight kilos of heroin when they stopped two cars in Lucan, west Dublin.

In follow up searches detectives yesterday recovered a further four kilos of heroin in an apartment at Glenshane in Tallaght and 200 grammes of heroin and 200 grammes of cannabis in a house in Finglas.

Senior officers estimated the total street value at €1.5m.

The finds were hailed by officers as a highly significant strike against one of the biggest organised crime gangs in the capital.

The men, aged 41 and 32, are expected to be brought before Blanchardstown District Court today.
