The 15ft wild woman Danu and her spirit wolf kicked off Hallowe'en celebrations in Dublin and Galway over the weekend, courtesy of award-winning performance group Macnas.

They were among many characters who walked through the streets at Galway's 'The Shadow Lighter' parade on Sunday, before appearing at a twilight procession in Dublin last night.

This was part of the capital's Bram Stoker Festival, a "story that is unique to Dublin and it attracts a whole host of visitors to the city", said Mark Rowlette, Dublin manager for Fáilte Ireland.
