Lucky escape for bus driver after vehicle goes up in flames while he was in Supermacs

A bus driver who pulled in at a Supermacs store in Co Mayo had a lucky escape after the vehicle went up in flames while he was in the shop.

The unidentified driver pulled in at Supermacs on the Castlebar Road in Westport, just about a mile out from the town.

It's understood the driver got out of the bus to enter the shop and returned to the bus on fire.

The incident happened at around 4pm today.

There were no passengers on board at the time of the fire.

A garda spokesman said the fire is being treated as accidental and the vehicle has now been removed.
