Luas line disruption drags on

THERE will be ongoing disruption to the Luas Red Line in Dublin today amid concerns that a derelict building badly damaged by fire on St Patrick's Day may collapse.

Extensive damage was caused when a fire broke out on Saturday morning at a disused property on the corner of Queen Street and Benburb Street, close to the Smithfield Luas stop.

The Red Line will operate today between the Tallaght/Saggart stop and Heuston only.

There is no service from Heuston to the Docklands terminus.

The frequency of services has also been cut, with trams running every seven to 10 minutes in peak times, and every 15 minutes during quieter periods.

All Luas tickets and passes will be honoured by Dublin Bus.

Dublin City Council is working to make the area safe.

"It's very regrettable we've lost the service and we are doing our upmost to get the service back.

"But we can't run a safe service until they've done what they have to do," said a Luas spokesperson.
