Luas Green line closed after car blocks tracks

THE Luas green line is currently not operating due to a car on the tracks.

The car is on the tracks at the Gallops Stop stop near Leopardstown.

Gardai and emergency services are currently at the scene.

Debris can be seen beside the track on the road.

The car - a silver BMW - appears to be damaged.

A Garda spokesperson told Independent.ie that the incident is being treated as a road traffic collision - and that the driver has only suffered minor injuries.

They said that the car collided with a power transformer on the line.

A Luas spokesperson said that a tow truck is on route to remove the vehicle, and that Dublin Bus are currently accepting valid Luas tickets.

The company posted a statement on its website saying:

"The disruption to service is caused by unexpected damage to a Luas trackside box.

"The damaged box controls signals and the overhead power lines. Luas Maintenance is working to restore the system."
