Low tide heralds perfect race
IT'S one of the few race meetings in the country where tide and not time dictates the first race.
Yesterday's low tide at 3.30pm was ideal for the Beal Ban races on the strand at Gortadoo near Ballyferriter in west Kerry, as our picture by Marian O'Flaherty shows. Eleven races featured in a packed race card before the incoming tide did away with the track.
The races attracted a huge attendance yesterday with onlookers from all over the world as well as a well-known face or two -- actor and 'Game of Thrones' star Aidan Gillen was spotted among the onlookers.
John and Linda Helland, holidaying in Dingle from Minnesota, USA, had pinned all their hopes on a jockey whose name struck a chord.
