THE nurse at the centre of the registration debacle which may have jeopardised up to 25 sexual assault cases was keeping a low profile yesterday.
Sandra Keeney (above) was removed from the register of the regulatory body in 2009 for non-payment of retention fees but continued to work at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) in Letterkenny General Hospital.
Registration with An Bord Altranais is mandatory in order to practise as a registered nurse or a registered midwife.
The HSE has made direct contact with all 25 victims of sexual assault and rape who were attended to by Ms Keeney when she was not registered.
A question now hangs over whether those cases that end up in court would be open to legal challenges.
It is understood that Ms Keeney has been off work since early March "for unrelated reasons". Attempts by the Irish Independent to contact her were unsuccessful.
