A 'lovely local lady' has won €8 million in the town's biggest ever Lotto win.

But the family woman, who bought her golden ticket at Hanrahan's Londis in the Faythe, wants to keep her name secret, at least for now.

'I have been talking to her. She just told me she didn't want anyone to know. I said I'd respect her privacy,' supermarket owner Michael Hanrahan told this newspaper, 'she just wants to keep her head down.'

Michael broke the news of the win to the woman at around 10.30 Saturday night when he rang her and asked if she had checked her tickets.

'She said no, she hadn't, and then asked me if I had something to tell her. I told her to check and when she did she could not believe that she had won.'

The winner of the €7,902,685 rollover bought her ticket with a €12.50 ticket on Saturday with the numbers 1, 9, 15, 23, 33, and 38. The bonus number was 29.
