Lotto syndicate stops traffic after big win
A SYNDICATE of stone workers brought traffic to a standstill as they sipped champagne outside the National Lottery headquarters after picking up a cheque for €226,567.
Christmas came early for the 22-strong syndicate from Treanor Stone-Tec in Clontibret, Co Monaghan.
They will each walk away with €10,298.50 after their Quickpick ticket matched five numbers and one lucky star in last Friday's EuroMillions draw.
Even the company's owner James Treanor (68) was in on the action. He admitted that little work got done this past week as 22 of his 32 employees celebrated their good fortune.
"Next week is back to the grinding stone," he said.
The lucky streak couldn't have come at a better time for Niall Coyle (31), who is getting married in June.
It was his idea originally to organise the syndicate and he is delighted that it paid off.
"It's fantastic. It's wonderful. The wedding is all sorted but not paid for, so this will come in handy," he added.
