HEADLESS men in suits and silk-clad performers wearing flippers -- 'expect the unexpected' could be the motto of a fortnight of dance which got under way yesterday.

The Dublin Dance Festival got into its groove yesterday with an enchanting dance performance from a Spanish company Aracaladanza.

The eighth annual festival brings an international programme of performances, films, discussions, workshops, outdoor and family-friendly events to Dublin between May 11 and 26.

Aracaladanza perform Nubes (Clouds) at the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire tonight and tomorrow as part of the two-week festival.

Artists from 17 countries will take part in events at venues throughout the capital.

Festival passes cost €220 and individual tickets are also available for each event.

See dublindancefestival.ie for further information.

Our picture shows dancers Jorge Brea, Jimena Trueba and Raquel de la Plaza in Dun Laoghaire yesterday for the launch of the festival. (Mark Stedman/Photocall Ireland).
