Loaded machine gun linked to jailed hitman's gang is seized
A loaded machine gun belonging to associates of jailed hitman James 'Nellie' Walsh has been seized during an armed raid in west Dublin.
Detectives from the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau found the high-powered firearm while searching a property in Balgaddy, Lucan, yesterday evening.
A 20-year-old male, who is known to gardaí and suspected of being a low-level drug dealer in the area, was arrested and is currently being held at Ronanstown garda station.
The Irish Independent has learned that the PM-63 RAK machine gun was found buried in the back garden of a neighbouring home of the man arrested. An additional clip of ammunition was also recovered.
Detectives believe the firearm is linked to the gang led by jailed criminal 'Nellie' Walsh, which is involved in a deadly west Dublin feud that has so far claimed four lives.
The most recent murders were carried out last September when two pals - Darragh Nugent (36) and John Gibson (28) - were shot dead a week apart by the Clondalkin gang feuding with Walsh. So far, four lives have been claimed in the feud, including an innocent 23-year-old man shot dead in a case of mistaken identity.
Dean Johnson was killed in a gun attack in which Walsh was the intended target.
