'Live sun' lights up world of science

Fiona Ellis

FROM AK-47s to sun spots and from vampires to Plato, for one night only, a series of events is allowing the public a sneak peak into the little-known world of scientific researchers.

Discover Research Dublin, taking place tonight, is an evening of interactive events allowing the public to get a sense of what research is all about and how many areas of life, culture, history, art and science it encompasses.

Activities will be staged across the campus of Trinity College, as well as inside and outside the Royal Irish Academy on Dawson Street. As part of the event, visitors can view a larger-than-life real-time projection of the sun direct from the centre of the solar system on to the front of the Fitzgerald Building in Trinity College using the latest available images from NASA. The free events will take place between 4pm and 11pm tonight. A full programme is on www.discoverresearch dublin.com.
