Little green sprouts in big demand

KATE Kinnear (6) and Ella Cotter (7) dress as Brussels sprouts as Tesco announces it is expecting to sell over 33 million Irish Brussels sprouts this season. That's a staggering 200 tonnes. The retailer's sprouts are grown by David and Charlie Keogh on their farm in Macetown, Co Meath.

Sprouts are a Christmas dinner must-have, renowned for their health benefits, including being rich in vitamins A and C, folic acid and fibre. While they are a bit of a 'love them or hate them' vegetable, they're a valuable commodity, especially at this time of year. Leon Farrell/Photocall Ireland
