Limerick resident Edele Hogan said today that the floods have destroyed her home.
She experienced the downstairs of her home on Athlunkard Street in the city being destroyed in a matter of minutes this morning as the River Shannon burst its banks and left them up to three feet under water.
“Our neighbour next door called over to see if we were flooded and then all of a sudden it hit. The impact lifted the timber flooring off the ground and reached the third step on my stairs,” she said.
They only moved into the house last August, she added.
“The three piece which I bought for €2,000 is destroyed, all our appliances, washing machine. It’s all destroyed and it has made it a miserable start to the new year.”
To add to her woes, she does not know where she will go next as her mother’s house is full and her partner’s family home has also been flooded.
“It was our first home together and now it has been destroyed.”
