Lift fall injures guests at wedding

FIVE wedding guests were injured when a lift fell two floors, plunging to the basement in a hotel yesterday.

The five suffered broken bones but it is understood no one was seriously injured in the incident.

They had been attending a wedding in the four-star Plaza Hotel and Spa in Killarney, Co Kerry, when the lift fell from the second floor, dropping to the basement, at around 2.30pm.

Fire brigade and ambulance crews attended the scene and the doors of the lift had to be prised open so rescue workers could gain access.

All five were taken to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where they were treated for their injuries.

It is understood they had travelled to the wedding from Dublin and Meath.

The Plaza, which is one of the O'Donoghue Ring Hotels, is a well known and popular venue for weddings.

It is situated in the centre of the Co Kerry town.
