Lidl Ireland are recalling all Unielektra smoke detectors sold during 2016 and 2017 over safety fears.

Concerns were raised about the alarm not sounding "loud enough" or "in a timely manner" in the event of a fire.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: "As a precautionary measure Lidl are asking consumers not to use the affected smoke detector.

"The item can be returned in all Lidl Stores where a full refund will be given, even without proof of purchase."

For more information on this recall consumers may contact Lidl Ireland by telephone on 1800 20 10 80.
