Lee goes back to his roots in new RTE role
HE has gone from the newsroom to the TV studio and onwards to the Dail.
And now George Lee is going back to where it all began after being appointed RTE's new 'Agricultural and Environment Correspondent'.
RTE News announced that the former Fine Gael TD will take up the role shortly.
"I left the newsroom five years ago. In a way I feel like I'm going back to the future," he told the Irish Independent.
"I'm back in the newsroom but in a different and new capacity."
Lee began working as a journalist for RTE in 1992. He left the station in May 2009 to join Fine Gael but dramatically quit the party just nine months later having grown dissatisfied with his role.
For the past several years he has worked as a correspondent on 'Prime Time' and presented 'The Business' on RTE Radio One.
He described his new role as "an exciting new departure" and said he was looking forward to meeting new people and hearing their stories. "I'm thrilled," he said. "Agriculture is undoubtedly the most important sector of our economy."
